I3A Interest Group Initiatives

Rapid Development Process for Faster Market Growth

To encourage innovation and eliminate the long lead times usually associated with collaborative efforts, I3A has created a rapid-development consortium standards process, which is carried out through initiatives of the focused Interest Groups.

Organized in three phases – Idea, Investigation and Results – the goal of this process is to identify, explore and develop technology ideas, quickly, that lead to increased penetration in mass markets for I3A members.

Any I3A member can initiate an Idea, using I3A’s Idea template.  The Idea proposal is then submitted to the Interest Group members for approval.  When all the criteria are met, the Idea  moves into the Investigation phase, where objectives and timelines are developed and work is assigned, and finally the Results phase, where group members complete the initiative’s deliverables.  As with any Interest Group activity, I3A provides administrative and project support, website services, marketing support, and a variety of other tools designed to facilitate a timely and successful collaboration.

For initiatives requiring significant funding, a Work Plan may be necessary, which is developed during the Investigation phase.  The Work Plan will outline the schedule, any funding needed and expected deliverables, and it must be approved by the I3A Management Committee.  Once the Management Committee has approved the Work Plan, the Results phase begins: the Initiative Group is formalized, participants provide funding if necessary, and they begin to execute on the work plan.  Ultimately it all adds up to market-driving imaging standards and materials that benefit consumers and businesses alike — and new opportunities for I3A members.
