Rapid Development Process for Market Growth

To encourage innovation and eliminate the long lead times usually associated with collaborative efforts, I3A has created a rapid development consortium standards process, called Initiatives. Organized in three phases – Idea Formation, Investigation and Results – the goal of this process is to identify, explore and develop technology ideas, quickly, that lead to increased penetration in mass markets for I3A members.

Any I3A member can initiate the Idea Formation phase, using I3A’s Idea template. The Idea template is then submitted to the Management Committee for approval. When all Idea Formation criteria are met, an Investigation phase of up to three months begins. During this time, I3A provides administrative and project support, Website services, marketing support, and a variety of other tools designed to facilitate a timely and successful collaboration.

Once the Management Committee has approved an Initiative Work Plan, the Results phase begins: the Initiative Group is formalized, participants provide funding, begin to execute on the work plan and ultimately complete the group’s deliverables. It all adds up to market-driving imaging standards that benefit consumers and businesses alike — and new opportunities for I3A members.

    Legacy Initiatives

I3A Legacy Initiatives are completed efforts that have contributed to the technology underpinning innovations in the imaging industry. Deliverables of these closed Initiatives can still be downloaded "as is"; however, support is no longer available. Legacy Initiatives include:

    CPXe: Common Picture eXchange environment
    DIG35: Metadata standards
    DIG2000: File format technologies
    Flashpix: Multi-resolution, tiled file format
    IIP: Internet Imaging Protocol
