I3A Is Standards
The International Imaging Industry Association (I3A) is the central international forum for the development and advancement of open standards for the imaging industry. To further our mission to benefit imaging users around the globe, I3A approaches standards development from three different directions:
Formal ISO Standards Activity
I3A Image Technology Committees
I3A Initiatives
Our portfolio of development techniques gives I3A unique flexibility when it comes to standards development. When the market calls for a quick solution, our Initiative process provides for the rapid development of consortium standards. When a more formal approach is necessary, I3A Image Technology Committees or the ISO Technical Committee on Photography, TC42, ensure full national or worldwide participation and support for a standard.
I3A Standards Programs Address Broad Image Markets & Technologies
I3A’s standards programs is focused around consumer imaging. We sponsor several Image Technology committees that address specific aspects of consumer imaging. These committees develop standards, recommended practices, testing metrics and technical reports.
Why Are I3A Standards Important to Me?
As the pace of technological change continues to accelerate and we become more dependent upon converged products and systems, the need for, and importance of, industry standards increase. Through its standards program, I3A supports and promotes critical components of the imaging ecosystem. Join us and be part of building the imaging ecosystem required for individual company success.
- Ensure interoperability with new and existing systems
- Implement standard terminology, reference, metrics, comparisons (quality, etc.)
- Influence future image technology standards
- Develop and utilize image testing tools and programs

As a participant in I3A’s Technical Committees and Initiatives, you will have an opportunity to influence the development of critical industry standards, recommend best practices and aid the creation of technical reports that define the future of the imaging ecosystem.

I3A welcomes participation in all of our standards-development activity. For each of the three types – ISO TC42, I3A Image Technology Committees and I3A Initiatives – there is a separate process for joining.
