I3A Is Imaging Innovation
The International Imaging Industry Association (I3A) is the central international forum for the development and advancement of technology innovation for the worldwide imaging ecosystem. I3A is organized into six focused Interest Groups (IGs), which map to the areas of technology that are of interest to I3A members. The IG structure enables members to have immediate participation in the subject area of their choice, allowing each company to focus its resources on those portions of the imaging ecosystem having the most impact on its bottom line. Furthering our mission to benefit imaging users around the globe, I3A's approach to standards development gives us unique flexibility: Interest Group Initiatives enable the rapid development of consortium standards and metrics or other programs. Read further in-depth details about the Initiative process.
For information about current and completed Interest Group Initiatives in technology areas that interest you, see the individual IG pages – links at right. View this table to see how the various Initiatives and working Committees map to the technology focus of each individual Interest Group.
I3A Interest Group Collaboration Fosters Quick Results
Our Interest Group Initiatives process provides for the rapid development of consortium standards and the delivery of quick solutions to the marketplace. Besides standards, IG Initiatives have the flexibility to include other types of programs and deliverables, such as market research, educational programs, websites, webinars or certification programs.
Why Are I3A Standards Important to Me?
As the pace of technological change continues to accelerate and we become more dependent upon converged products and systems, both the need for and importance of imaging standards increase. Through its standards program, I3A supports and promotes critical components of the imaging ecosystem. Join us and be part of building the environment required for individual company success.
- Ensure interoperability with new and existing systems
- Implement standard terminology, reference, metrics, comparisons (quality, etc.)
- Influence future image technology standards
- Develop and utilize standardized image testing tools, measures and programs
- Become a visible part of the community, connect with business partners, and help lead the way to future success
As a participant in I3A’s Interest Group Initiatives, you will have an opportunity to influence the development of critical imaging standards and metrics, recommend best practices and aid the creation of technical reports that define the future of the imaging ecosystem.

I3A's History of Formal Standards Development
For many years I3A also managed ANSI and ISO formal imaging standards development programs that addressed broad markets and technologies. These programs included I3A Image Technology (IT) Committees, which focused on specific aspects of consumer imaging, and Working Groups (WGs) of the ISO Technical Committee on Photography, TC 42, which developed international imaging standards. In 2011 I3A transferred responsibility for these programs to IS&T and ANSI, in order to better serve current members' interests by concentrating on new technology sectors.
