I3A Optical Media Activities

IT9 - Image Permanence

Physical Properties and Permanence of Imaging Materials
The scope of the I3A/IT9 committee is the development of standards and recommended practices for physical properties, permanence behavior and the effect of environmental factors on imaging materials. Imaging materials include, but are not limited to, photographic film and paper image transfer materials, magnetic recording materials, electro-optical materials, and digital output materials. Digital output materials include, but are not limited to, inkjet prints on paper and other substrates. This activity is coordinated with the work of existing applications and technologies committees in related areas.

The primary focus of IT9 is the development of the USA opinion on ISO standards developed by TC42/WG5. TC42/WG5 develops the ISO 189XX series of standard on physical properties and permanence of imaging materials such as film, paper, prints, optical media and digital output media. There are currently over 40 standards either published or in development.
