I3A Photo Book Initiative – Get Involved
Photo books truly represent one of the key advantages of digital photography – they can be quickly and easily created by just about anyone. YES, there is room for improvement, but companies are quickly resolving the ease-of-use barriers, and the high abandonment rates of the early market are coming down quickly. New vendors are creating software and interfaces that are very easy to use, even . . . fun. All that users have to do is select their images, and the software does the rest.
When consumers see a photo book for the first time they are floored! "I had no idea you could do that!" is a common reaction. This is the heart of the problem: crossing the chasm. People love Photo books. They either just don't know that they exist, or they see them as the domain of the technically inclined early adopters. They have no idea how truly easy it is to make one. How do we get consumers across the chasm?
I3A sees this chasm as an opportunity for members to work together to:
- Develop consumer awareness
- Develop standard definitions and classifications
- Develop specifications, testing and best practices for image preservation
- Develop standards for templates and output formats
