IT10 - Digital Photography

Electronic Still Picture Imaging

I3A/IT10 develops standards for Electronic Still Picture Imaging. I3A/IT10 meetings are scheduled twice per year. Most members are also USA experts in Working Group 18 (Electronic still picture imaging) of the ISO/TC42 Technical committee on photography, for which I3A is the Secretariat under the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). ISO/TC42/WG18 also typically meets twice per year, between I3A/IT10 meetings. The scope of the I3A/IT10 committee includes specifying storage media, device interfaces, and image formats for electronic still picture imaging. The committee also works on standardizing measurement methods, performance ratings for devices and media, and definitions of technical terms.

The standards apply to digital cameras and other digital photography devices and systems. I3A/IT10 has supported the development of more than 20 ISO standards through ISO/TC42/WG18 and several TC42 joint working groups. These ISO standards include:

  • Digital image formats and image transfer protocols
  • Digital camera ISO speed, resolution, OECF, and noise measurements
  • Print and film scanner resolution and dynamic range measurements
  • Extended color encodings
  • Psychophysical methods for estimating image quality
  • Terminology

To speed the development and publication of critical standards of interest in the USA, I3A/IT10 also develops I3A/ANSI Standards using a fast-track process. These standards are listed below.

I3A/IT10 members represent users, governmental agencies, other standards organizations, and companies that manufacture digital cameras, scanners, or printers, provide solid state memory cards or components, or develop imaging software. Qualified organizations, companies, or individuals willing to actively participate in standards development are encouraged to join I3A/IT10.
