Advocacy Interest Group
Representing the imaging industry to governments and regulatory bodies is one of the critical activities of I3A. As the imaging ecosystem’s voice, I3A cooperates with legislative committees and works with administrative agencies, regulatory bodies and other governmental groups in the United States and worldwide. I3A’s views have credibility and are often sought by government bodies before legislation or regulations are proposed. I3A testifies and submits statements in support of industry positions, using materials generated by members. The credibility and rapport between I3A and government departments and agencies give I3A special insight, and thus the flexibility to adapt to ever-changing circumstances and a diversity of projects.
The Advocacy Interest Group is made up of companies who seek an active leadership role in specific areas of environmental, health, safety, security, and related transportation regulation, working through focused committees and initiatives.
Current efforts include:
- The Environment and Health (E&H) Committee, which works to address worldwide health and environmental issues that affect the imaging industry, such as worldwide substance control laws, product labeling requirements, electronics recycling, battery issues, chemical regulations, and limits on perfluorinated chemicals.
- The Safety Committee provides a forum for benchmarking and sharing safety-related information, learning experiences and best practices concerning special hazards indigenous to the imaging industry, creating a safer place to work through the exchange of information and ideas, and honoring top safety records with annual awards.
- The Committee for Integrity in Transportation of Imaging Products (ITIP) addresses concerns over damage to imaging products and materials when inspected during travel or shipment, including film and digital media exposed to carry-on and checked-baggage/cargo screening equipment, and issues public recommendations.
