I3A Presents 2010 Leadership Award to Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen
Monday, February 22nd, 2010ANAHEIM, CALIF. – Feb. 22, 2010 — The International Imaging Industry Association (I3A; http://www.i3a.org), the leading global association for the imaging industry, has conferred its prestigious annual Leadership Award upon Shantanu Narayen, President and CEO of Adobe Systems Incorporated (http://www.adobe.com/).
Adobe Vice-President of Imaging Kevin Connor accepted the honor on behalf of Mr. Narayen at the PMDA (Photoimaging Manufacturers and Distributors Association; http://www.pmda.com/) Awards Dinner that took place Saturday, February 20, on the eve of the annual PMA photo industry conference and trade show being held in Anaheim.
I3A Treasurer and Leadership Award Committee Chair Daryl Hunt, Director of Standards Strategy at the Eastman Kodak Company, presented the award – represented by a crystal captain’s decanter, symbolizing leadership – following a video appearance by Mr. Narayen (available for viewing at http://members.i3a.org/public/Shantanu_Acceptance_Speech_h264.mov).
Awarded annually for two decades, I3A’s Leadership Award each year recognizes one individual in the international imaging community who has exhibited the exemplary qualities and innovative vision of a leader. Recent recipients of the award include Atsushi Kodera of Kyocera Sanyo Telecom, Inc. (2009); Makoto Kimura of the Nikon Imaging Company (2008); Antonio Perez of Kodak (2007); Fumio Iwai of Konica Minolta Holdings, Inc. (2006); and Vyomesh Joshi of HP (2005).
“I am tremendously pleased that we present this year’s I3A Leadership Award to Shantanu Narayen,” said Lisa Walker, President, International Imaging Industry Association. “His vision, leadership and passion for innovation have made an indelible and lasting contribution to the imaging industry, from desktop imaging to multimedia publishing and mobile content delivery. Without his influence, our industry landscape would not be as rich as it is today.”
Shantanu Narayen joined Adobe, one of the world’s largest and most diversified software companies, in 1998. He has held key product research and development positions at the company, including executive vice president of worldwide products, senior vice president of worldwide product development and vice president and general manager of the engineering technology group.
Prior to his appointment as CEO in December of 2007, Mr. Narayen was Adobe’s president and COO, responsible for the company’s day-to-day global operations, as well as for product research and development, marketing and corporate development. He co-led the company’s acquisition of Macromedia in 2005, which expanded Adobe’s software platform and solutions and strengthened the company’s presence in key markets, ranging from enterprises and vertical industries to mobile devices and multimedia publishing.
Before coming to Adobe, Mr. Narayen co-founded Pictra, Inc., which was an early pioneer of digital photo sharing over the Internet. Prior to that, he served as director of desktop and collaboration products at Silicon Graphics, Inc., and he also held various senior management positions at Apple Computer, Inc.
